July 2003 Volume XIlVII, Number 07

Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month unless that day falls on a holiday or if the church has need of the meeting room. See the web site for the full year calendar and the bottom of this newsletter for the next meeting date.

Deadline for submitting articles and classified ads for the next newsletter is August 15, 2003. Submit items to Martin Gottlieb, preferably via email to martin.gottlieb@spcorp.com or via "snail mail" to 180 Tichenor Avenue, NJ 07079.

Next Meeting: Monday, July 28, 2003 at 7.30 PM. See below or the web site for the full year calendar.

Agenda: Our demonstrator will be Bill Smith. Bill has been a turner for many years and is well renowned for his work with open segmented turning. He has authored one book "Segmented Wood Turning".

He is a well know demonstrator at both local and national events. Some of his work was featured in the Del Mano gallery?s "Small Treasurers Exhibition".  Bill is a member of the Buck's turning club in Pennsylvania.

It's time for another survey. If you did not attend any of the workshops that NJ Woodturners sponsored this spring, Tom Gall would like to know why. At the end of this newsletter is his survey. If you did not attend, please fill it out and mail it back to Tom, or bring it with you to the next meeting.

His address is 29 Arthur Road, Hillsborough, New Jersey 08844.

Summary of the June 2003 Meeting:

NJ Woodturners donated $100 to Carolina Mountain Woodturners to help them recover from damage to their shop.

Attendees discussed participating in the Middlesex County Fair on August 8, 9, and 10.

Our demonstrator was Mike Mocho, who operates a small shop and teaches woodturning and furniture making at the Santa Fe Community College in New Mexico. He showed the use of a blunt grind on his gouge for turning the inside corner of vessels. Mike also demonstrated skew scraping and the use of his private brew French polish. We didn?t get a chance to see his rather extensive slide show, since our projector didn?t work. (Donation anyone?)

  Special appointments:

Jim Spallin will maintain the club?s web site.

Dennis Fuge and Stan Lefkow will organize demonstrations.

Larry Gould will manage the school training program.

Issac McDonald will arrange refreshments.

Stan and Rita Lefkow will manage the library.

Tom Gall will manage Training and Workshops.
